TECHNICAL FLOORIING SLABS
Technical floors are made up of removable plates laid on an adjustable structure, allowing the easy installation of various utilities, and their modification according to needs and redevelopments.
They first appeared in the 1960s and became more common with the growing demand for technology in buildings. They are often found in offices or in areas with a strong requirement for information and communication infrastructure, such as data centers.
The engineered floor system offers layout flexibility for construction services and allows quick and easy access for reconfiguration and maintenance with the inclusion of removable floor slabs. It also allows spaces to be reconfigured or rearranged with minimal disruption to floor distribution boxes, furniture or repositioning partitions.
It consists of plates that are usually square, 600x600 mm in size and 19 to 38mm thick. They are made of high-density particleboard and covered with sheet metal on the underside and edges (sometimes in PVC). A 60 cm square, 30 mm thick plate weighs around 9.5 kg. Adjustable screw jacks support the plates at each corner. Plastic pads are placed between the cylinder and the plate. The cylinder bases and skids are glued in place, and the plates are simply laid. The sheet metal sides of the plates are in contact with each other. The structure is earthed by a metal braid screwed to certain jacks. The edges of the floor are fitted with acoustic seals.
